Goldens can have osteoarthritis

Sharyn sent in a testimonial to introduce us to her two Golden Retrievers, Buddy and Murphy, beautiful brothers who were suffering from arthritis. It is not unusual to hear about this health problem from a Golden Retriever family. Golden Retrievers are top dog on the list of most popular dog breeds in the world. They are great animals to have in the family because they are loyal, friendly, loving and magnificent. However, because of their size, Golden Retrievers are on the “very high risk” category for osteoarthritis as well as hip and shoulder dysplasia. This causes joint mobility issues that need to be addressed. For some Goldens, it comes earlier, for some it comes later.

Could your dog have arthritis? Here is a way to find out: take the quiz.

Goldens aren't the only breed on the very high risk level. Here is the Dog Breed Osteoarthritis Risk Factors chart:

When families choose Goldens, it's a good idea to understand the needs of the breed. Some natural ways to keep any Golden Retriever happy, healthy and more mobile is to maintain a healthy weight, keep your dog active and add joint supplements to their diets. Sharyn chose Glyde® Mobility Chews as the supplement of choice for Buddy and Murphy. Sharyn is glad she did. Here is her note to us about her #GlydeDogs:

“Both my 11-year-old male Golden Retrievers are suffering from arthritis. It is hard to see them in pain when doing simple things like getting up from lying down and climbing stairs. We started them both on Glyde chews about 6 months ago. Now, they are moving around much better and enjoying life. We are so glad we found Glyde!”
