Parnell Supports Pets & People

May 2, 2018

At Parnell Living Science, it is our mission to help pets and pet parents live a better life. We also enjoy helping others live a better life through volunteering as a way to give back and to show our dedication not only to pets, but people too. Employees volunteer their time and can choose causes they wish to be involved in. Often, we coordinate events as a group to take part in together. Here are some highlights of our volunteering efforts over the past few months.

Habitat for Humanity

Recently, we were excited to be part of an effort organized by Habitat for Humanity. While many of us Parnell employees were concerned with fixing up someone else’s house, we had great teachers instructing us on what to do. We all found it fun and learned more than we thought we would about fixing up houses, the new homeowners and ourselves. Here are some photos of our experience.

Pet Rescue Donations and Volunteering

There is an obvious connection with Parnell and pet rescue and adoption centers. We provide goods and services they need. An added bonus is that we get to play with the dogs and cats at the shelter. Here, our team brought #GlydeDog Frisbees as toys for the shelter dog to play with.

We have also donated Glyde Mobility Chews to dogs in need at various shelters across the nation, especially if they had surgeries or accidents that impacted their mobility. We have provided goods and services to our veterinarian clinic partners and animal shelters in need during the hurricane disasters of 2017.

Kitchen Service

Parnell volunteered at the Kansas City Episcopal Community Services Food Kitchen. It was a lot of fun to help in the kitchen and serve roughly 200 people that day for lunch. Several staff members said this day was one of the highlights of our volunteer efforts.

Bring Your Child to Work Day

At Parnell, we made “Bring Your Child to Work Day” even better (or should we say even crazier) by making it a combination of kids and pets! Our children were tasked with understanding the power of Glyde Mobility Chews and how it helps pets and pet parents across the nation and the world by treating arthritis in dogs and cats.

My kids, Jett and Marina Johnson, participated in a work group where they had to come up with their own business idea and illustrate it.  (Jessica Johnson, Marketing Associate for Parnell.)

BYCTW learning about Glyde

Karen Greenwood, long-time Vice President of Research & Development for Parnell, took some time to educate the kids on the science behind Glyde Mobility Chews. Karen asked: “Any ideas on what Green Lipped Mussel (GLM) is and why is it so important to our products?” The children’s response was basically, “Wait a minute; I thought we were just going to play with dogs and cats today.”

This seemed like a good idea: trap the dogs and kids in the cubical area while a few of us try and get some work done. Leo, the Bernese mountain dog, benefited the most with all that attention.

At Parnell Living Science, we take improving the lives of dogs, cats and pet parents very seriously. But we also enjoy having fun with each other and making a difference in our own community. Stay tuned for more volunteering updates!
