Responsible Dog Ownership Day

Written by Jessica Johnson | September 12, 2018

The American Kennel Club (AKC) created Responsible Dog Ownership Day to educate the public in their own communities about what it means to be a responsible pet owner and how to enhance the relationships between dogs and their pet parents. It is observed annually as the third Saturday in September. This year, it is September 15.

Many of us are dog owners, but what does it mean to be a responsible dog owner? And what can you do to celebrate responsible dog ownership? Here are some visual aids with adorable dogs to help you remember them.

Here are 5 ways to celebrate with your dog, according to the AKC Responsible Dog Owner Pet Promise:

#1: Offer exercise opportunities.

#2: Visit the veterinarian regularly.

#3: Recognize the responsibility.

#4: Provide the proper mental simulation.

#5: Have proper identification.

These are just 5 ways to be a responsible pet owner as you celebrate #ResponsibleDogOwnershipDay. What other ways can you celebrate? Post your ideas on our FaceBook page! To remind others of this day, share this post on your own social media sites to let everyone know you are a Responsible Pet Owner. Enjoy your dogs today and every day!
