Pause for National Police Remembrance Day

24/09/19 11:53 AM

For the past 30 years, Sunday, 29 September has held a special place in our hearts for the significance of Police. It is a day to pause and honour those who had their lives cut short while performing their duties as police officers. This includes all branches, as well as K-9 units throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and the Solomon Island. This year marks the 30th anniversary of National Police Remembrance Day.

This milestone means opportunities to celebrate throughout the country. We also wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what we are doing at Parnell to support K-9 Units.

Ways to Honour

If you are wondering how you can mark this special occasion worth remembering there are a few things you can do. Attend an event aimed at honouring and recognising them. Some events are hosted on Friday, 27 September 2019. For a full list, check out the National Police Remembrance Day Services Information Guide.

Also, there is special recognition being made celebrating the 30-year anniversary of this recognition by minting an official $2 commemorative coin by the Royal Australian Mint. The new coin resembles a police badge and has a limited amount released so order yours soon!

Parnell Supports K-9 Units

Here at Parnell Living Science, we support all branches of police and military, as well as the service dogs working tirelessly in their daily lives. K-9 Units are an important part of the Police Departments. According to the Australian Federal Police, there are many roles these amazing dogs fulfill from general purposes including inspiration and motivation to firearm locators and drug detectors. They work tirelessly in accomplishing their goals for Police departments.

In doing so, unfortunately there is a natural wear and tear on joints. This is due to their demanding work schedules and sometimes high-intensity activities. As K-9 dogs age, osteoarthritis, or arthritis in dogs, may appear earlier than other dogs because they have put their body through a lot of athletic feats.

We are proud to say that Parnell Living Science supports this effort of our working service dogs such as “Ink” a K-9 Unit in South Australia. Ink recently was working a scene to help apprehend the criminals. He was struck by a car as one of the perpetrators tried to escape. According to eyewitnesses, Ink stayed steadfast in his role after he was hit by the car. It wasn’t until the scene was contained that officials realized that Ink had indeed sustained injuries.

Ink was rushed to Adelaide Vet, where he was expertly treated for his injuries. Ink sustained four broken ribs and a punctured lung. Thankfully, he recovered from these injuries following numerous surgeries. Ink spent 10 days in the animal hospital recovering, whilst being nursed back to health by their wonderful staff.

We are very happy to hear he is doing better. Our company is assisting in his healing process by providing Glyde® Mobility Chews for Ink. His story is here. We also posted a story on our site here.

Thank you to all of the units of Police service for all they do for us. They put their lives on the line and make us proud every day.
